How to Achieve Work-Life Balance
Updated: Apr 29
In today’s busy world, prioritizing between your work and your privat life can be a challenge. But studies show that a poor work-life balance can result in unhealthy levels of stress, unhappiness, and even reduced productivity.
Take care of yourself first and be open and respectful of your needs and the boundaries of others. If you are out of balance, everyone else in your circle will be as-well.
"The trouble is, you think you have time."
- Jack Kornfield
- #Manage your time wisely
There aren’t enough hours in the day, right? Maybe they are if you can learn to identify and eliminate the many time suckers that are already in your life set as rituals. You may think a minute or two on social media or surfing the internet is an insignificant amount of time to waste, but these minutes add up. For one week keep a “time-waste journal,” writing down each way you waste time and how much you lost. Your phone has a detailed time use option, make sure you check it out every week and activate it. This allows you to create a practical plan for dropping these time-wasters.
- #Create positive success habits
Most adults suffer from sleep deprivation, lack of exercise and poor nutrition. These are successful failure habits! If you feel a lack of balance in your life, these negative habits are one of many reasons to blame. Do yourself the favor of slowly making positive changes in your diet and lifestyle to allow yourself to really thrive both at work and at home.
- #Priorities first
What does really matter to you? What are your biggest need´s? There are so many ways to make this happen. Is exercise a must in your work day? Is meditation a must in your work day? Let your family, friends and team know and find a flexible way to schedule it. Do you need one day completely off each week — a no-email, no-phone-calls-or-texts, no faces, no-work-at-all day? Tell your friends and team and make it happen. And remember: everyone has needs, and they may need you to help them fulfill theirs, too.
A successful work-life balance is a never-ending journey, and your needs will be different at different times in your life. Set yourself some time once every other month or so aside to reflect on your current state, how would you like it to be, and what´s needed for arriving there.
